Sadly, it is unlikely that customers can still get into NEM2. To be grandfathered into NEM2, a fully correct submitted application, alongside with a single line drawing, needs to be provided to the utility by midnight of April 14th. With my current lead times on site visits and the engineering time needed to procure a single line drawing, it is unlikely that we would be able to submit in time. If a customer wanted to try anyway, the deposit for engineering and SCE submission would not be refundable if one did not get NEM2 and wanted to cancel. Beyond this, please expect significant delays throughout the process. From SCE approval, to Engineering, to Permitting, to Installation scheduling, to City Inspections, each department is experiencing unprecedented volume; what typically takes 1 month would take three. Please be highly skeptical of any company promising grandfathering. That is not possible. It is completely up to SCE; they can absolutely kick back your application by saying that it was not submitted correctly. I refuse to have unethical sales techniques by "guaranteeing" something that ultimately is in the control of SCE.
Here is a great guide to NEM: https://news.energysage.com/net-metering-3-0/
SCE's information on NEM: https://www.sce.com/business/generating-your-own-power/net-energy-metering#:~:text=Grandfathering%20for%20the%20current%20NEM,Time%2Dof%2DUse%20rate.
Yes, the paradigm will just be different. For solar in general, the energy you make will first go into your house. Any extra energy is then sent to the grid. The grid then keeps track of the credits you give them alongside with the kWh you take from them. Presently, SCE values those credits around 30 cents+. In the future, what you give them will be closer to 8 cents. To avoid the utilities de-valuing your solar energy, thus reducing the value of your investment, the strategy would be to ensure that you don't give them anything! This happens in three ways:
We are firmly against Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and leases. We feel as if with the new changes within the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to the 30% solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) there is no reason not to own. Many companies hide outrageous commissions into long financing and PPA rates. We do not find that ethical. Due to our 25 year warranties and performance guarantees, we enjoy taking business away from PPA companies.
Yes. We have a variety of financing offerings. However, we offer cash prices as well. We strongly believe that there are other financing opportunities on the market, such as HELOC and Credit Union Financing, that is better than financing that you can get from any solar company. Other competitors make money off of forcing you into a bad financing plan with high dealer fees. We don't do that. Also, we do offer credit card payments with no CC fees!
We have access to all manufacturers. However, we prefer American made solar with longer warranties and efficiencies. We particularly like Qcell panels, 360 and 400w on up.
We almost exclusively utilize Enphase microinverters. Microinverters offer no single point of failure by having the AC/DC conversion happen at each individual panel. As a result, it is easy to ensure that each and every panel and inverter is working optimally. Enphase has excellent warranties, customer support, and monitoring capabilities.
About a quarter of our customers choose battery storage solutions. However, the market is ever changing. We can help guide if storage is financially the best for you, or not.
We've had ten years of experience within the green energy world, most of which in Southern California, from working both with large commercial projects to working with our neighbors.
My installation partners, such as California Solar Installers, and I only use products that have a 25 year panel and inverter manufacturer warranty. In addition., we include a 25 year craftsmanship, leak, and performance warranty!
No! Though we live in the area, we work all throughout Los Angeles, Orange, San Riverside, and San Diego County.
Yes! We do a lot of work cleaning up systems that older companies have abandoned. Most old inverters are the "weakest link" for older systems and are now out of warranty. We will gladly update your system with you at an economical price.
